What are Chakras?
The human body contains hundreds of locations where there is focused and concentrated energy.
There are, however, seven major energy centres, commonly referred to as "chakras." Chakra is a Sanskrit word
which means "wheel." The chakras are similar to wheels in that they are spinning vortexes of energy. They are
centres of force located within our etheric body, through which we receive, transmit, and process life
energies.
Each chakra in the body is recognized as a focal point for life-force relating to spiritual,
physical, emotional, and mental energies. The chakras are the network through which the mind, body, and
spirit interact as one holistic system. The seven major chakras correspond to specific aspects of our
consciousness and have their own individual characteristics and functions. Each has a corresponding
relationship to one of the various glands of the body's endocrine system, as well as to one of the seven
colours of the rainbow spectrum.
The main purpose in working with and understanding the chakras is to create integration and
wholeness within ourselves. In this way we bring the various aspects of our consciousness from the physical
to the spiritual, into a harmonious relationship. Ultimately, we begin to recognize that the various aspects
of ourselves all work together, and that each aspect is as much a part of the whole as the others. We must be
able to acknowledge, integrate, and accept all levels of our being.
To help us in the process of our unfolding it is most important to understand that the chakras
are gateways for our consciousness. They are the gateways through which emotional, mental, and spiritual
force flow into physical expression. They are openings through which our attitudes and belief systems enter
into and create our mind/body structure. The energy created from our emotional and mental attitudes runs
though the chakras and is distributed to our cells, tissues and organs. Realizing this brings tremendous
insight into how we ourselves affect our bodies, minds, and circumstances for better or for worse. To
understand the chakras and their relationship to our consciousness is to better understand ourselves.
Understanding ourselves will enable us to make our choices and decisions from a place of balance and
awareness, rather than being blindly influenced by forces we do not understand.
Where are the chakras
located?
The chakra are the energy current that we have in our bodies that bring in the universal
energies we need to remain living. Chakra is the Sanskrit word for moving wheel; the chakras are vortexes of
energy present in the ethereal body and in related locations of the physical body. There are seven major
chakras and they function as pathways for energy to be taken in, metabolized and sent to the major nerve
centre nearest each one. Several more chakras seem to be opening up in many people but for now we will begin
with the traditional seven.
The chakras are located along the line of the spinal column and are composed of high frequency
energy strands that the spiritual eye perceives as light. The life force is channelled to the physical body
and its organs via the Nadis and meridians and enters the body through the chakras. The degree of chakra
activity depends on a combination of the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual development of the
individual.
Chakras can be damaged or blocked through an emotional upset such as conflict, loss of someone
dear or accident. Fear, anxiety and stress are common causes of chakra malfunction, it is the disruption of
the chakra and aura that create disease and disturb the energy balance of the chakras. Psychological problems
may cause 'blockages', obstructing the flow of energy into or out of the chakras.
SHK can it be used to balance the
chakras?
- This second symbol calls for energy that brings about tranquillity of the mind and balances
the electrical system of the body. The chakras are balanced by using the SWEEPING method using SHK and
CKR.
This special 2nd symbol is referred to as the "Key to the Universe". Sei He Ki
increases emotional stability and releases energy blocks in the chakras. It integrates body, mind, heart and
spirit.
- The CHAKRAS are the most important place that should be balanced for healing
-
- With emotional (separation of some one dear to you or through death)
- and mental healing, It balances the left and right side of the brain
- and gives peace and harmony (after childhood sexual abuse).
- It is also very effective on relationship problems (problems that arise after
marriage or divorce).

Then how the chakras should be
described?
- The word 'chakra' is derived from the Sanskrit word meaning 'wheel'. If we were able to see
the chakras (as many psychics, in fact, do) we would observe a wheel of energy continuously revolving or
rotating. Clairvoyants perceive chakras as colourful wheels or flowers with a hub in the centre.
- The chakras begin at the base of the spine and finish over the top of the head. Though fixed
in the central spinal column they are located on both the front and back of the body, and work through
it.
- Each chakra vibrates and rotates at different speeds. The root or first chakra rotates at
the slowest speed, the crown or seventh chakra at the highest. Each chakra is stimulated by its own and
complimentary colour, and a range of gemstones for specific uses.
- The chakra colours are of the rainbow; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and
violet.
- The size and brightness of the wheels vary with individual development, physical condition,
energy levels, disease, or stress.
-
- If the chakras are not balanced, or if the energies are blocked, the basic life force will
be slowed down. The individual may feel listless, tired, out of sorts, or depressed. Not only will
physical bodily functions be affected so diseases may manifest, but the thought processes and the mind
may also be affected. A negative attitude, fear, doubt, etc. may preoccupy the
individual.
-
- A constant balance between the chakras promotes health and a sense of well being. If the
chakras are opened to much, a person could literally short circuit themselves with too much universal
energy going through the body. If the chakras are closed, this does not allow for the universal energy to
flow through them properly which may also lead to dis-ease.
-
- Most of us react to unpleasant experiences by blocking our feeling and stopping a great deal
of our natural energy flow. This affects the maturation and development of the chakras. Whenever a person
blocks whatever experience he is having, he in turn blocks his chakras, which eventually become
disfigured.
- When the chakras are functioning normally, each will be 'open', spinning clockwise to
metabolize the particular energies needed from the universal energy field.
-
- As already mentioned any 'imbalances' that exist within any chakra may have profound effects
upon either our physical or emotional bodies. We are able to use our quartz crystals and gemstones to
re-balance all our chakras centres and once the chakra has been properly balanced then our body will
gradually return to normal.
The reason why crystals and gemstones are wonderful and powerful healing tools are because of
what science calls its piezoelectric effect. (You can see this
effect in the modern quartz watches).
Crystals and gemstones respond to the electricity that is coursing through our body, and
if the energy is sluggish, the constant electrical vibrations of the stones will help to harmonize, balance, and
stimulate these energies.
Are Chakras part of the Reiki
System?
No. Or at least, not the way that I was taught or teach it! There is no evidence that Usui
worked with chakras. A Reiki treatments activates the Life-Force energy in every little bit of us - it
doesn't need a chakra, meridian, or any other channel through which to flow! Just try giving a Reiki holding
somebody's hand, or moving the 'giving' hand away from your chakra position - the energy still flows, doesn't
it?
What are the
Chakras?
Chakras are energy vortexes and are information that is part of many Indo-Tibetan Systems.
Chakras were not taught as part of the Original Reiki System but were added on to the many Ushui/Tibetan and
Tibetan Reiki Schools that sprang up in mid 1980's. Some masters teach Chakras as part of the system along
with reiki.
Some schools and/or Independent Non-Traditional Masters teach techniques such as "opening
chakras", "closing chakras", that they spin clockwise and what that means, that they spin anti-clockwise and
what that is supposed to mean.
There is not always a general consensus on what colours the various charkas are supposed to be
and different schools and people see them differently. Some reiki teachers have taken from their new age
practices of using pendulums to determine the "spin" of a chakra, or using it as a yes/no oracle to determine
if the chakra is "blocked". In my own experience, I have not found much concurrence of opinion as to whether
or not it is open or blocked among those that practice such techniques.
Chakra work is a complicated skill. It is taught as part of several healing traditions outside
of reiki and takes many months, if not years, to master even at a novice level. It is certainly not something
that could be taught in a weekend reiki class. If you do not have specific, extensive, instruction in
manipulating chakras outside of your reiki class then I would suggest to you that you not engage in
techniques such as these. Remember that reiki is simple. Doing reiki is passive, by doing nothing everything
is done. Manipulating chakras is an active act and would seem inconsistent with doing reiki in this manner.
