Reiki
- The Healing Power of
Love
BY Anil Kumar PROAG, RMT
I have come
to realize during my years of practice as a REIKI HEALER that
true emotional and physical healing can only come about as a
result of an individual's ability to experience Love.
In fact a
corollary of this is that any illness is the direct result of
an individual's inability to
Love. I
know that some might find such statements to be bold and
unsubstantiated. After all, they might ask, can we even
define Love from a scientific perspective let alone
measure it or its effects?
In spite of such challenges I would like to offer an
operational definition of Love and then show how it can be
applied to the measurement of health outcomes. So from a
strictly practical standpoint I would like to define Love
manifesting as any intention that is clearly and exclusively
beneficial to the individual who holds such an
intention.
Hold a
baby in your arm and you say it automatically... I love
you. Hold a friend relative or neighbour in your embrace;
you feel there is an exchange of love in the form of good
reiki energy. For example, the intention to eat healthily
would be classified, according to this definition, as a
manifestation of Love.
Interestingly, having an intention to treat others respectfully
is also a manifestation of Love because it indirectly makes the
person holding such an intention feel good about them and this
is clearly beneficial to that person. Reiki is beneficial to
all, the giver and the receiver.
So with this tool in hand let us move on to consider how it
might play a role in healing. In order to address this I would
like to address an example of a situation of a person who is
not able to fully Love. So what does it mean to be unable to
fully Love. It essentially means that the ability to hold
intentions that benefit one is impaired. In other words, one
finds oneself inviting intentions that are "not beneficial"
into one's life.
This leads to that person allowing, yes allowing, undesirable
outcomes into their life. By undesirable, I mean something that
is unpleasant and unwanted. An example of something undesirable
would be say, the feeling of guilt. If you feel the experience
of guilt for yourself you will, I feel, find it to be an
unpleasant experience. If you then ask yourself whether you
enjoy or genuinely desire having such an unpleasant experience
you will likely say no.
Now I know that, for whatever reason, you will try to justify
to yourself, reasons why "it is necessary" to hold on to such
an unpleasant experience. For instance you might say to
yourself things like: the feeling of guilt helps to make me a
moral person, it helps to steer me along a virtuous path, it
therefore helps nurture a sense of self esteem and self worth,
it therefore makes me feel like a good person and therefore
makes me feel good about myself.
So notice what you have just concluded i.e. that guilt makes
you feel like a good person. So if that is so, why do you feel
so bad about yourself whenever you allow yourself to feel the
guilt? If you are feeling a bit confused by what appears like
an apparent contradiction it is because you are just beginning
to become aware of it, perhaps for the first time in your
life.
Are you noticing that you have bought into a lie about the
feeling of guilt? You have believed, without challenging it
that having the intention to invite guilt into your life
actually was beneficial to you i.e. a manifestation of Love. In
other words, that something that is unpleasant and makes you
"actually" feel lousy about yourself would be beneficial to
you.
Well buying into such a lie, is clearly detrimental to you, is
it not? So you now have an awareness that allows you to make a
choice about this unpleasant thing called guilt. If you truly
wish to experience Love then you can simply ask the guilt to no
longer intrude on your life. Yes, I know it may sound too
simplistic, but if you have a sincere intention around this you
may find interesting things happen for you emotionally and
physically.
So rather than my having to convince you of the health benefits
of Love I ask you to measure the results of this experiment for
yourself over time. After all, isn't this the only proof that
anyone would really respond to?
Within each
one of us resides the divine healer. All healings come from
within and not outside. Once the healer within is set in motion
the healing takes effect.

did you last hold someone to your heart and said, I love
you, or I miss you, or I like you? Try

Reiki Healing and the Performing
Artist
Our active and sometimes stressful
lives can often deplete or interfere with the flow of "Ki". Ki
is the life force energy that flows in every living thing and
is the source for maintaining health. When Ki is low our
ability to function at our best becomes compromised and we are
more susceptible to illness and injury. Reiki energy is
directed by the "Higher Intelligence" and infuses the spiritual
and physical body with rejuvenating life force
energy.
While all of us can benefit from
the healing power of Reiki the actor, singer, dancer and
musician face unique challenges. Performers rely upon their
physical bodies for their creative work and financial support.
The highly competitive life style of a performing artist can be
very demanding.
Getting to that next performance, rehearsal or audition
takes motivation and personal power. To be spiritually
empowered is an integral aspect of personal growth and having
physical health is not even an option.
As a preventative and complimentary treatment Reiki
offers a system that helps you to release stress, build your
immune system and develop inner peace. Reiki also helps the
actor or singer to centre their voice and maintain vocal
clarity. Dancers and musicians receiving treatments have
decreased joint and muscle pain and stiffness. The deep state
of relaxation Reiki induces assist in increasing your mental
focus as well as your ability to connect to the "higher
self".
Health and wellness is desired by
everyone. Having optimum health requires balancing the
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. Achieving
that balance brings wholeness and fulfilment to our
lives.
A regular Reiki treatment works to create harmony in
body, mind and spirit. Staying strong and well fosters success
and brings your creative dreams into
reality.
Reiki
in the Community
by Jude Brown
If you are an expectant mum or
have recently given birth, you may be interested in a new
community project offering Reiki treatment at a time when you
may appreciate some TLC for yourself and your baby.
I was lucky to be offered the opportunity of a Reiki treatment
when my son, Stanley, was 7 weeks old. I also have a daughter,
Jessie-Rose who is 4 and although I was feeling fine, the
opportunity for me to relax was one I was not prepared to pass
by!
My appointment was with Mamta Nanda – a fully qualified Reiki
practitioner. Mamta will be working with her colleague Lucy
Paterson to introduce Reiki to mothers and babies who, it is
felt, can benefit enormously from one or two sessions. They
will be running a drop-in Centre every Tuesday afternoon at St
James’ Community Hall in Balham.
Reiki is a system of energy healing which works on all levels
of a person: mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually
with the aim of restoring a balance within our health and
well-being. Clients
are fully clothed while the practitioner places their hands
around the energy field of the body.
Reiki also claims to help unborn babies who will sometimes
follow the practitioners’ hands around their mother’s body
during treatment! An interesting and - I am assured - a safe
way to begin bonding with your new baby!
During the treatment I could feel a certain amount of heat –
but most interestingly – I experienced a tingling in my leg
which I had last felt during my pregnancy. A cold I had been
suppressing for a few days surfaced and disappeared the next
morning – and I felt fine. I fell asleep during the treatment –
which is not hard when you are not experiencing normal sleep
patterns – but when I awoke I felt completely chilled out and
very relaxed.
Stanley appeared to enjoy every minute
of his treatment smiling and flirting with Mamta and a few
nights later slept from 10pm – 5am!! It may be a coincidence
but I think a baby certainly benefits from a relaxed Mum – and
this was one very relaxed Mum!!
If you would like to experience a Reiki treatment why not drop
in to St James’ Community Hall, off Ouseley Road, SW12 8EB.
Tuesday afternoon @1.30 -3.30pm. £10 per session with organic
refreshments provided.
